Converting distance to time
N-Space
▪On arrival at a new system, ships mostly spend 2-5 Cycles getting from where they exited Hyperspace to the planet.
▪On departing the planet, most ships spend 1-2 Cycles getting to where they can jump out.
▪Actual times vary with the ship’s N-space acceleration capability
▪Departure times are relatively consistent for a given ship, unless the planet in question is inside its star’s Safe Jump Zone
▪Arrival times can vary considerably based on jump accuracy and navigational factors
Hyperspace
▪The baseline formula for estimating time in Hyperspace (in Cycles) is <distance> / (1.2x<FTL-speed>)
▪The big bulk freighters run by the Mercantile Bureau usually run at a speed of 1.0
▫The PC’s have so far had the luxury of speedier travel than that
▪One of the ways a small tramp freighter like Spanial maintains a competitive edge is it’s FTL Speed – FTLx2.3
▪Being a courier, the Snark class Oliver was travelling in originally was FTLx3.0 to FTLx2.0 depending on distance.
▪The Maldemar sloop has a speed of FTLx2.5 for Jump-1 (red routes in the diagram) and Jump-2 (orange routes in the diagram) and FTLx2.0 for Jump-3 (green routes).
▪So, if one were travelling from Witnish to Zargonia in the sloop:
▫You’d see it was a green, Jump-3 route, making the FTL speed x2.0
▫You’d plug the values into the formula => 25.4 /(1.2 x 2.0)
▫= an estimated 10.6 Cycles in Hyperspace
▫Plus N-space time
