Banknotes

Standard Bank Notes

Denominations

Standard notes follow a 1-2-5 pattern before increasing by an order of magnitude.  The smallest denomination is ʂ1 and the largest ʂ50,000, making for 15 different denomination notes.

Construction and Printing

Dimensions

Standard Notes are all the same size – 144mm x 68mm.

Materials

Modern notes are made from a soft but durable paper that combines fibres, glassweave and metallic threads.  Each note has a metallic thread through it containing encoded information about the note, such as its denomination and serial number.

Serial Number

Each note has a serial number comprising alpha and numeric characters.  The leading alpha characters indicate where the note was printed and its denomination and the numeric part is the individual note number.  Although provision has been made for notes to be printed in different places, all modern notes are printed on Resolution and so the first two characters for all notes are the same.

Design

They are printed in a combination of five different colours (Yellow, Blue, Purple, Red and Green) which is different for each note.

The front of each note shows different images of symbols, personages and events important to the Electorate and its history.  The back of each note is a common and simple design intended for ease of identification of the note’s denomination.
