E-469-Oliver: Merchant Freighter Spanial (Leaving Zarg’s World Highport), Control
In Oliver’s estimation, Ipan is quite competent. There are a few things Oliver might do differently, but it’s more personal preference. The back-and-forth between Ipan and Jennie is similar to that which Oliver had with Alan (though Jennie doesn’t respond with the same gruff put-upon sense that Alan did occasionally…)
As Spanial passes over the Highport Moonlet, the distance to the surface gradually increasing, Oliver has a glimpse of the restricted docks, where he sees a Maldemar Sloop – it could be that Maldemar 732 hasn’t left yet, though he can’t tell for certain if it’s his old ship or a different one.
After a while, the ship reaches the edge of traffic-controlled space. Ipan closes off direct communications with Space Traffic Control and Jennie adjusts Spanial’s course slightly for the run out to the jump point.
The rumble of the thruster through the hull grows louder as Jennie powers it up to its full cruising power, an unobtrusive vibration that is a constant background while the ship is underway in normal space.
Karmen says, “Ipan, you have the Watch.”
“I have the Watch,” he responds.
Karman and Jennie rise from their seats, securing their consoles. Karmen nods to Oliver, doesn’t comment.
Is there anything else Oliver would like to do or say before we finish up?
Oliver nods back to Karmen, then will chase after her to see if there were any other duties she had that he wanted him to do.
Otherwise, I’m happy to wait for the next Module to do any other work he has planned.
