It’s up to her whether she sleeps or does anything else before examining the widget? Given the other story thread is behind in time, I can’t be certain, but I suspect everyone else will be asleep when she returns to the ship.
The widget itself has a thumbprint security sensor, and will unlock to Lia’s touch.
