E-002: Merchant Freighter Spanial (Docked at Zarg’s World Highport), Ring Corridor

    Ipan

There is no additional information available regarding Ipan’s reaction.

    Lia

    Sick Bay

Even when Karmen was injured I don’t think Lia went to Sick Bay.

    Sick Bay

The Sick Bay is at the opposite end of the Ring Corridor to the Common Room.
The door has a simple privacy setting but as a Sick Bay its not really lockable.
Lia will note that in shape and size it appears to be identical to the other cabins – shaped like a section of doughnut, about 2m wide at the narrow end and 2.8m at the wide end, 3m long with a 2.2m ceiling.

The floor and walls of the Sick Bay are painted a pale green, with the ceiling in a stark white.  All surfaces are the slightly rubberised durable material common to spaceships and stations, except that the intersections of walls and floor and ceiling have been filled in so they are rounded rather than square.

Both Lia and Oliver will note that there is a sealable drain outlet in the floor.

On the immediate left is a combination shower/toilet cubicle (sometimes referred to as a ‘fresher’).  The toilet bowl and seat folds down from the wall for use and then retracts so the space can be used as a shower.  Above that, a basin and mirror folds down as well.  The shower has automated temperature control, several spray pattern settings and also a built in blow dryer.  Whatever the grey cubicle interior is coated with, water doesn’t adhere to it; within seconds of shutting off the water and a blast of the dryer, the interior is dry.  It’s very cosy, but quite space efficient.

Lia will note that, unlike her own cabin, there’s an extra extendable shower head on a hose that can pull out into the cabin.

Next to the fresher cubicle on the left wall is a wheeled bed, able to be pulled out and moved around and narrow enough to fit through the door. It has Gecko grip brakes allowing it to be secured to the floor as it currently is.  It also has an extensible set of bars that not only prevent a patient falling out, but can also meet over the top of the bed to act as a roll cage in the event of Zero-G.

On the right wall near the wide end is a workstation, below which is a fold-out desk top in three sections, which allows the desk to be oriented facing the back wall, the side wall and video screen or an L-shape for both.  A comfortable folding chair clips to a wall and is acceleration rated when placed in slots in the floor.  The video screen can be configured as a mirror and there is a mirror over the fresher cubicle fold-out basin.

Many of the remaining walls are covered with cupboards for medical equipment.  Oliver can find one that appears to be empty for a patient’s gear to use for himself, which is lockable.  Several of the cupboards are locked, and one seems intended to be quite secure.

Lighting strips run up each wall corner and along the roof.  They are all dimmable, but on experimenting he may discover that on full intensity it’s quite bright in here.

  1. Lia Silver-Rose says:

When Lia opens the door, she looks around and then turns to Oliver with an apologetic expression.

    “Not very homely I’m afraid.”

  2. Oliver Starr says:

Oliver starts to wander around the room and will inspect various things, mostly just as a casual look around to obtain the description provided above.

“It’s fine, I’m more about function.”He’ll then turn to Lia. “So what’s the current plan for the crew? I assume there’s some dock leave being had and then off to do these jobs? There’s seven of you, correct? Plus the passenger?”

  3. Lia Silver-Rose says:

“Dock leave for a few cycles, yes. And yes seven crew, plus one passenger. Or…eight now, I suppose.”

  4. Oliver Starr says:

“Not a problem then. The crew of the Vizierate ship have been told I’ve resigned and have disappeared…” he looks around. “Hopefully they don’t come knocking.”

“Do you know if there’s a manual to this ship?”

  5. Lia Silver-Rose says:

    “Lia’s eyebrows rise slightly.

    “Hopefully is right.”

    Her eyes narrow slightly.

“Why would you need a manual?”

  6. Oliver Starr says:

“Shouldn’t be a problem, I can shoo them away or they can just be informed I’m not here…”

He looks around the room again.”It’s unfamiliar, I’ve promised a maintenance service to the captain and being shown around if issues ever arise would be awkward and potentially hazardous, depending on severity. With one look over the layout of the ship I can know where I’m going if I’m needed.”

  7. Lia Silver-Rose says:

“Might be best to ask Gregar, our Engineer. He’d be best equipped to help you with that sort of thing.”

She seems to be assessing him in some way.

  8. Oliver Starr says:

Oliver nods. “Very well, I shall talk to him when he is available.”

    He thinks.

“Prrri is also an engineer is he not?”

He’s not trying to hide anything right now.

  9. Lia Silver-Rose says:

“Mechanic. They often work together, though Prrri has slightly different hours. Everyone basically has their shifts and their jobs.”

  10. Oliver Starr says:

“Well, I look forward to fitting into the routine.”

  11. Lia Silver-Rose says:

Lia nods and watches him for a beat longer with a slightly bemused expression.

“Word of advice. This is a nice crew but they tend to be close knit. You might have your work cut out for you convincing them you’re not Vizierate.”

  12. Oliver Starr says:

    Oliver shrugs.
“I don’t need to convince them. I’ve offered a trade, one they probably wouldn’t have accepted if they didn’t think I was.”
    He sits on the bed.
“Now I just need to convince them I’m worth keeping around.”

  13. Lia Silver-Rose says:

She tilts her head a little.

“You offered the Captain a trade and she accepted. There’s a difference.”

She starts heading for the door.

“I should deal with that thing I’d rather avoid. Welcome to Spanial, Oliver.”

    She disappears down the corridor.

  14. Oliver Starr says:

    “Bye Lia, thank you.”

Oliver sits and thinks for a bit, before heading back to the common area.
