C-158: Zarg’s World Highport, Target Freighter

On the screen, Prrri seems to be connecting to the station’s beeper service.  The Dominion doesn’t generally like unlicensed radio transmitters about, but for a small fee crew visiting a station can sometimes (it’s not offered everywhere) hire a beeper.  The captain or whoever is authorised can connect to the beeper service using PubNet, enter the assigned beeper ID to set it off.  When it buzzes or beeps of flashes (or whatever), it means, call or come back to the ship, depending on what the captain has told the crew to do.  The beepers generally only work within the port buildings.

Savochkin says, “shouldn’t be long, no more than a Task.  Two at the outside.”

Is there any sub-text in Oliver’s tone?  ie is it ‘Get Out!’ or is it ‘whatevs, go or stay if you want, it’s cool’?

Whatever the answer, Savochkin will offer the following suggestion:  “You know, if you want the Cargo Master, or even the Captain if they don’t show, I could put in a call and have them picked up.  If they’re in either of the ports, it probably won’t take long to round them up.”

  1. Oliver Starr says:

The tone is ‘I’ve got this but I’m not about to tell you how to do your job.’ Which is closer to the ‘whatevs’ approach I guess.

“The captain shouldn’t be long,” he looks back to the screen, then remembers Erin’s request again. “But I do need the cargo master. A pickup would be useful.”
