Perhaps surprisingly for a state that’s dictatorial in many ways, being an escort is a mostly legal business in the Dominion.
The following she would have learned some time ago from Esha.
Even outright prostitution tends to be more a social stigma than an illegal activity, and that somewhat depends on location and other circumstances. As a general rule, the Dominion prefers people’s fucking to result in children so paying people for sex is somewhat stigmatised as being a failure of good citizen ethics and being a prostitute is more likely to be associated with a sentiment like ‘why can’t you do honest and noble work like being a surrogate?’
Being an escort of Lia’s status carries a mild stigma as it’s unavoidably associated with prostitution in many people’s minds, but there’s nothing illegal about paying someone to hang out with you (or actually, to have sex with you).
As an aside, the Dominion takes a much dimmer view of pornography than prostitution; you’re far more likely to get arrested for attending a censored film night than going to a brothel, getting insensible on recreational substances and paying one or more people to screw your brains out while you’re being smothered in hot wax and jelly.
Generally the things that get you into trouble in Lia’s line of work and related activities may include:
- Clients who have not reached majority age
- Violations of the Dominion equivalent of consumer law, eg
- Failure to provide services advertised
- Failure to obtain clear consent (client or supplier)
- Accidental injury to a client
- Unsafe health practices
- Legal complications arising from pregnancy
- Operating a business from a premise without obtaining a commercial occupancy grant
- Incorporating illicit substances into the work
- Attempting to corrupt or aiding in the corruption of a Dominion Official (usually both will be in trouble), eg
- Exchanging sexual favours as a bribe
- Providing services to a Dominion Official while they are on duty
One of the most dangerous things Lia does, is operate under her Emerald Winta alias. The Dominion doesn’t like fake identities. Lia’s defenses against this are that she’s not trying to defraud the Dominion nor the client that she’s someone else, and the Winta fantasy is part of the service the clients are buying.
Additionally, the Dominion doesn’t have income tax so the whole ‘black economy’ associated with vice doesn’t come into play to a large extent.
Last question – is he a Dominion official?
