A-691: Spanial (Docked with Mundo Zargo Highport), Common Room
Everyone gradually takes their seats and attention shifts to Karmen.
She seats herself and says, “So most of you know how this works, but this one has a wrinkle in it so I’ll go over it again together.
“It’s a special pay day so now everyone gets paid.”
There are smiles about the table.
“So, the ship gets paid first, from the amount we were paid for this job I take the charter fee out and that covers the running costs and all of our regular wages. Our employer gave us a down payment and I credited that to the ship’s account already and from our final payment I’ve taken the balance.
“By the way, we got paid in a case full of unauthorised Money cards so I’m just going to hand those on and you’ll find there’s one extra that I’ve added and marked that makes up the additional balance.”
Incidentally, Lia knows that an ‘unauthorised Money card’ is a Money card that hasn’t had its security features authorised to a person; it’s not illegal or anything though you can’t use them for transactions in that state. Her Streetwise skill will tell her that exchange of unauthorised Money cards is sometimes used as a form of payment for ‘black market’ services.
“So next, we made a deal with Mer Kort while we were on the wreck. He and I have subsequently negotiated the exact value of that deal and his payment comes out of the job payment as a cost. Though when we come to split the salvage, he’ll get a share.”
There are some glances at Kort, but no one speaks.
“So next, every one of the crew is allocated a number of shares based on their position. My shares are then one third of that number and added to the total number of shares. The remaining payment amount is then divided by the total number of shares and allocated to each person accordingly.
“And to be clear, this is just about the job payment, not the salvage.”
She looks around the table, taking in everyone but particularly Lia.
“Is everyone in agreement with that approach?”
Lia is much better at Finance than I am, so I assume she has more of a grasp of what might be fair or standard in this situation.
