Whatever he’s doing seems to be electrical work, so he isn’t greasy.
A hug could be appropriate…and he doesn’t try and gut her with his claws or anything when she tries it so that seems ok. He bats her (affectionately?) on the back of the head with his tail during the process.
He will feel her muscles relax a little as they’re hugging.
She will let out a small sigh before pulling away.
“Everything okay here?”
