A-211: Spanial, Mostly Lia’s Cabin/Lab

Lia Day 43

Flat Oval Disc

She has a laser cutting tool and can take a sample from an edge.

Social

Kort is clearly being neutral or enigmatic.  Either way she can’t guess at his deeper motivations, he doesn’t seem unfriendly though.

By the Pricking of My Thumbs – The Storage Widget

On the widget there are a bunch of files that are password encrypted that she can’t get into, the file names suggest these might be files about the Yarg, and about Thurston-Thurston-Thurston’s financial arrangements.  However, there are numerous folders with various contents.

The following is pieced together from a variety of files on the widget:

It seems that Thurston-Thurston-Thurston and Schafer Wentworth were partners in life and in scientific research.  He was a xenobiologist and she, a xenoanthropologist.

He was working with the Resources Bureau and she as a contractor with the Vizierate, both stationed on Zargonia, before they were seconded to Octant 7 to work with the Agriculture Bureau, from which they are both currently on leave.  Both are currently working on ‘the project’ (variously also described as ‘the venture’, ‘the work’, ‘the job’ and ‘the opportunity’.)

They had a fellow researcher working with them, a Gabriel Highjon, apparently a linguist and communications expert.  Thurston-Thurston-Thurston felt he lacked scientific discipline and rigour.

Apparently, having acquired the ‘samples’ from an unknown source, the project director was interested in opening a relationship with the Yarg, and was hopeful of using the samples to gain their interest where previous attempts have failed.

After some study of the samples, Thurston-Thurston-Thurston formed the view that they were ‘non-viable’.  Highjon returned to ‘the facility’ with this news, and a request that ‘the other samples’ be brought out to the Cyprinidae.  Instead, another researcher, a John Roy-Hinkley joined them.  His disciplines seemed to be across physics and chemistry.  Thurston-Thurston-Thurston was critical of Roy-Hinkley’s methods, calling him a ‘plodder’.  Though he noted that Roy-Hinkley did have some ideas for making contact with the Yarg.

Apparently ‘the other samples’ would follow on a later trip when a suitable transport could be located.

Personal Priorities

So, modified priorities are:
  1. Inspect the metal ingots and possibly talk to Karmen about them
  2. Work on the skyscape and stars piece
  3. As well as commissioned piece (tell me about that?)
  4. As well as a scent for Raina
  5. Examine mineral from Zarg’s World for scenting possibilities

  1. Lia Silver-Rose says:

She will run some tests on the small sample, attempting to ascertain what it’s made of and how those elements might work together.
11, 16, 12 starter rolls for this or whatever else needs rolls. Not sure which skills are required for this!

She is frustrated that she can’t get a decent read on Kort. She sighs.
“Look. I don’t know what to make of you. You seem like a nice enough guy, who is simply doing what he’s paid for. I can respect that. But I don’t like your boss. And I don’t like the impression I got of the way that ship was conducting it’s ‘business’. So I’m torn. This information is probably going to end up going to a guy I don’t like, for reasons I don’t agree with. The question is, where do you stand in relation to that?”

Lia is annoyed that the files she is most interested in are encrypted. She will make a couple of copies of everything in hopes of finding some way of unlocking them later. What do Prrri and Gregar think of all this information? Lia is now simply dying to know what is in that bloody container, since it seems to be ‘other samples’. She will bring out the image Prrri gave her earlier and get Gregar’s impressions.
*Sidebar question – was it the Resources Bureau that Adler was running?

Yes to modified priorities. Now you’re taxing my memory about Lia’s commissioned piece. I believe it was a sapphire necklace but you can decide who it was for, since that will be easier to work into story/timelines.
