A-207: Spanial, Mostly Lia’s Cabin/Lab
Something Fishy
As far as Lia can determine using the limited resources available aboard Spanial (basically the Dominion equivalent of Wikipedia – it’s a merchant freighter not a Vizierate Research Ship, after all) Lia does not think the recovered scales resemble any of various common types of fish scales.
Things To Do
Capsules and Threads
Careful study of the capsules shows that:
- The thread parts actually contain two insulated lines, thus can be used to send a current up one and down the other forming a circuit
- There is a simple tiny mechanical switch in the tip of the capsule, the end of the thread is attached to it.
- It looks like when the capsule hits something it closes the switch and completes the circuit in the thread that allows a current to flow.
Capsule Structure
Shows thread coiled inside (much thinner and more tightly coiled in reality) and tip switch.
The Tip switch idea is a bit speculative, in all of the samples Lia has they have been triggered. Also only one of the circuit lines is attached to the front and the other is attached to the back of the capsule (not shown in diagram.)
It takes a while to figure all that out, and Lia may chat with Gregar about it.
A bit of socialising and time for bed.
Tools
Karmen is happy for Lia to take the tools, but suggests that she discuss it with Gregar, noting that they might share resources.
Meta
This is going to be either one huge post, or a longish series. Just to break it up I’ll post one per Cycle.
Feel free to respond or add extra questions. I may just post a bunch at once without waiting for a response and you can respond to whichever.
[However, I’m going to grab some Z’s right now…hopefully]
That was Lia Day 42.
Forget what I said last night – wasn’t thinking straight. Now I have Lia’s plan’s we’ll work through the execution of them Cycle-by-Cycle, giving an opportunity to interact or explore issues at a more granular level if desired.
She’s frustrated about the fish scale research. She wants to be able to absolutely rule it out. Can she make any useful comparisons between fish scales she can identify and the ones she has? i.e. Most fish scales are pretty flimsy but efficiently designed/arranged on the body and assist in movement through water. Can she theorise what these scales might assist with as a comparison?
Lia will definitely work with Gregar on the threads and once the above conclusions are drawn she will suggest he attempt to recreate his own version of the weapon if possible, so they can continue their research.
She’s more than happy to share the tools with whomever has a use for them.
Let me know if you need me to make extra rolls for the additional stuff we added after her first series of rolls!
