A-041: Spanial, Lia’s Cabin
After some time spent testing and researching Lia draws the following conclusions:
- If this is a manufactured substance, it’s unclear what its purpose might be or how it was made
- Lia’s not an expert in biology or biochemistry so she can’t be certain it’s organic
- The exterior scales are probably a metal alloy with large proportions of beryllium, magnesium and calcium, and possibly trace elements of other things, but Lia will need a mass spectrometer to be more precise
- The scales are themselves made of smaller layers of scale like substances, under a microscope (vs just her loupe, I’m sure she can get one) the scales are made of many layers of irregularly-shaped metal flakes, micrometers across, bound together with some sort of substrate, possibly similar to the mesh backing
- The scales are fairly tough and reflect light (including laser light) in a lustrous pattern as a result
- The scale alloy is a variable electrical conductor, depending how it’s flexed
- The mesh backing is made of what are apparently many layers of strands of the grey-white backing material
- This material is, in turn, formed of twisted strands and they of twisted strands
- The backing material forms into natural chunks of various sizes, but typically about the size of Lia’s fist
- The chunks seem to make up part of a larger object that blew apart as a result of heat or an explosion
- The curvature and structure of the material suggests the metal is an exterior surface and the grey-white mesh the interior
- The mesh is flexible and rubbery
- The exterior surface is flexible and even with the scaled metal surface, amenable to bending and deformation
Any reaction to extreme temperatures? I.e. Can she melt enough to bond them together or to other things?
