9-324: Pristine, Mine Site One
Sorry, 9-323 was a bit of a derpy GM post – scene setting without a clear call to action for the player. So…
9-323 Part II
It becomes apparent that Cagnotti isn’t going to stop.
GURPS Vehicle Stats
So, a quick review of what the key numbers are for a GURPS vehicle follows. Hnd/SR and Move (acceleration) are possibly about to be important.
GURPS Stat |
Patrol Vehicle Value |
Explanation |
TL | 8 | |
Vehicle | L1077 Utility Patrol Vehicle |
The vehicle’s name. |
ST/HP | 68 |
Vehicle Hit Points, also vehicle’s strength (ST) stat if that becomes important. |
Hnd/SR |
0/4 |
Handling (Hnd): This value modifies any roll to control the vehicle. Stability Rating (SR): Failure of a vehicle control roll by more than this amount indicates a likely mishap. |
HT | 11 |
Vehicle’s Health (HT) stat. A measure of reliability. |
Move |
3/50 (160km/h) (40 km/T) |
Move is the vehicle’s top speed (at 1G and 1 atm in ideal conditions). Cruise speed is usually 60-70% of this value. The first number is Acceleration in m/s. Becomes important in crowded terrain. The second number is top speed in m/s and equivalent to Base Move for a character. I have provided values for top speed in km/h (x3.2) and km/Dominion Task (x0.8) |
LWt |
4 (3.6t) |
The loaded mass of the vehicle in US Short Tons. I have provided a conversion to metric tonnes (x0.9) |
Load |
1.5 |
Cargo capacity in US Short tons |
SM |
+3 |
Size modifier, per GURPS B19 |
Occ | 1+1+2 |
Occupants. In this case: 1 Diver, 1 Passenger, 2 Passengers as cargo. |
DR | 5 |
Damage Reduction. |
Range |
400 (640km) |
Distance before refuel (recharge in this case) |
Locations |
G4W |
Non-body hit locations. In this case: Large glass area and 4 wheels. See B463, B554 |
Skill |
Driving, Automobile |
The skill used to operate the vehicle.
|
Mine Site One
The PSO’s Driving (Automobile) skill is 12.
Alan will be following in the Crawler. He’s operating it using default Driving (Automobile) skill of 14-2=12. For most rolls he’ll get +1 from Combat Reflexes and -1 for the Crawler’s Hnd modifier so will be at an effective skill of 12.
So for this next bit we’re going to use an abstracted version of range:
- Close
- Short
- Medium
- Long
- Extreme
Your (presumed) goal is to get Oliver close to Cagnotti and get him to stop and/or confirm the skidoo registration. If he gets beyond Extreme range at any point you’ve lost him. Unless you just want Oliver to let him go and find him later?
Cagnotti begins at Medium range.
If anyone decides to shoot:
- Half damage range for handguns is Medium and Long
- Half damage range for longarms is Long and Extreme
- Time is slightly abstracted and you can assume aimed shots on all attacks
Now, initiative – I want you to bid for initiative. This means:
- Choose a number from +3, +2, +1, 0, -1, -2, -3
- This is in some sense a measure of how hard each party is going to push their vehicle and how much risk is going to be taken
- Cagnotti will choose a number as well
- Whatever number each party chooses, that number will be applied to any control rolls that follow for the turn
- The lower number bid gets to choose whether to go first or second in the turn
- Mostly you’ll want to go first but in some circumstances it can be useful to go second
- In case of a tie the vehicle operators make contested skill checks
- Operators with Combat Reflexes get +1 on their Control Rolls
Alan will move on Oliver’s initiative.
I was going to say that after each bid the higher bidder gets to choose whether to bid lower or let the low bidder choose first or second initiative, but I think that is a bit slow for a play-by-online post game. Unless you’d really like to do that? Any questions or comments? Anything Oliver would like to do? If not I recommend listening to your favourite chase music and bidding for initiative… When you bid, also give me a roll for the PSO’s skill check in case we tie and advise your preference for first or second initiative if you win.
I will bid at -1.
I would like to go First.
Oliver is specifically trying to confirm the registration.
With 5-4-1 I rolled 10 vs 11.
