9-212: Pristine, Clement Basin, Vizier Ableford’s Office
“I’d appreciate it if you could keep me informed of your progress, within the bounds of what you can release to me, of course.
“But aside from that…”
He trails off and asks Warden Simmonds to come in. When she does (it seems she was just outside) he introduces Oliver as a new Vizant 4.
It seems Wardens don’t salute like the Legion does, but she gives Oliver a respectful nod.
Abelford says, “so we need to process his ID.”
She says, “of course. Will you be authoriser, Vizier?”
He nods.
She says, “If you’ll both come with me then.”
She leads them down and into the cars; the Warden in the foyer joins them and follows in the second vehicle that was parked there.
The Warden zips across the compound to a single small building surrounded by its own separate wall.
En route Abelford says, “we need to replace your ID tag.”
Arriving at the building, the Warden tags through, goes down a short corridor and tags again through a security door.
Inside is a small room dominated by a couple of machines and a safe.
Both the Warden and the Vizier tag and thumbprint into the safe and then again onto the machine, which hums into life.
The Vizier says, “well, that’s all I’m needed for. Stay in touch Vizant Oliver. Oh, and don’t forget to drop by Stores when you’re done here. The point is to impress the Legion, so you’d better look the part.”
He leaves, presumably for the second Warden to drive him back.
Warden Simmonds asks for Oliver’s ID tag. She opens the safe and removes a blank gold tag with a hot pink border, places it into a slot in the machine. She places Oliver’s tag into a slot next to it and activates a control. There’s a beep and a light flashes and she hands Oliver the gold-and-pink-bordered tag.
She removes his old one and drops it into a hopper in the second, smaller machine; followed by which there’s a grinding noise.
“Thank you. I will let you know how it goes.”
Oliver takes the new tag. “So, when my Vizant status is revoked I assume I’ll get a similar one back.”
He thinks for a moment. “How hard would it be to make a custom tag with this machine?”
