Alan follows Oliver to the empty bedroom and, wearing his Legionnaire uniform beneath cold weather gear, puts a boot down firmly in the dust.

When he withdraws it Oliver is seeing triple:  The pattern from the boot prints on the floor, the print from Alan’s boot and the image in his eidetic memory of his mother’s footprint in the dust of Russell’s World are identical.
