9-107: Pristine Wardenate Headquarters

Message Traffic

Oliver recognises the address as a diagnostic procedure.  You can send a message like that and use it to query the status of a comms server.  In this case, the message would query the nearest comms server (indicated by the ?) and that server would respond with a code.  The response coded mean different things depending on what’s in the message.

Oliver is also aware that the port 17 protocol is deprecated functionality, and no longer in general use, though servers may still support it.  Hence he’s not studied it in any further depth.

Bobb-Jobethunt lived with Argyle for a while…

When the message traffic thing is resolved she returns to the secondary query issue.

She says, “There’s a hunting lodge registered near that co-ordinate, the proprietor being Billy Bobb-Jobethunt.  It’s noted that Mer Bobb-Jobethunt has died and so his Name Heir has the registration, but the estate issues have not been finalised.”

Sounds to Oliver light he might just be testing the communications technology he’s trying to develop.

“That’s where Argyle was last seen and where the locals said he lives.”
