9-001: Previously on Dominion Space

Travelling from GRRAS to Zargonia, Oliver and Dicard’s project team had a chance to enhance their skills, and Oliver took the opportunity to research Willard Argyle’s journals and computer, and to socialise and meet Minor Vizier Mallory Harrison, who seemed to like Oliver quite a bit.

Arriving at Zargonia, Oliver led Fromm and Uddin to meet the contact  Alec Bronze-Stepping, who was uncovered by the senior Vizierate people ( Frederick/ Nanny/ Dicard).  Bronze-Stepping, a former member of the Overlord’s Household, provided information that Willard Argyle is a false identity and that the true identity of the person the team is interested in is Abbas Lozenge-Sok.  Lozenge-Sok supposedly died in a vehicle crash on 204.057.  Oliver then visited the MaPaCoA computing facility where this information was confirmed and aroused the interest of the MaPaCoA cyber security people, represented by the four main arms of Dominion government, as Lozenge-Sok worked on a sensitive part of the Dominion’s largest computing facility.

Oliver and Fromm were invited to lunch by the Bureaucracy representative on the MaPaCoA Cyber Security Advisory Board, and though he shared a file with Oliver, was more interested in asking questions than providing answers.

Though Lozenge-Sok was working for the Overlord’s Household at the time of his supposed death, the Household has restricted information in respect of it and was not forthcoming with any assistance, yet remains interested in the outcome of the Vizierate investigation.

Oliver subsequently discovered that Lozenge-Sok’s partner Lyanna David left Zargonia only a few Cycles after the date of Lozenge-Sok’s supposed death, in company with his former Vizierate project ViC, Minor Vizier Sardo Ohare.  Ohare would never return to Zargonia, dying under unknown circumstances on Aaran’s Pride on that trip.  Lyanna travelled to an outer planet in the Four-Three system and apparently never left.

Meanwhile, Oliver’s journal research has caught up to the point on Lozenge-Sok/Argyle’s life where the change of identity happened and there are several entries missing; apparently removed by Argyle himself.
The team is now heading back to Pristine in the hopes of picking up Argyle’s trail from where he previously disappeared into the shadows of that icy garden world…

After the title scroll above, feel free to imagine a pan down from the words flying through space to the…

            Vizierate Sloop Maldemar 732

…under thrust on its way from Zargonia to the hyperspace jump point for Way Station Argyropoulos.

As noted, Oliver can set up his cabin, which is on Deck 2.  There is an office he could possibly take over, but I suspect he’d prefer to work in his cabin.

The cabins here are a little more spacious than those on the Snark, though not much, but everyone has their own private compact fresher instead of sharing a communal one.  It’s one of the models where the WC folds up into the wall leaving space for a shower and there’s a fold-out basin for hand washing or getting hot and cold water.  Storage is under the bunk and there’s a vid screen on the desk as well as over the bed.  Oliver’s cabin is decorated in muted greens and greys.
The rec area is not large, but is reasonably well equipped for its size.
How would Oliver like to spend his time on this journey and structure his routine?
Is there anything he’d like to do specifically?
Are there any fellow team members he’d like to interact with or specific interactions he’d like to have?

            Itinerary

Way Station Argyropoulos is 17.5 light years from Zargonia and Pristine is 25.3 light years from Argyropoulos.
Alan estimates the itinerary is as follows:
System Cycles Inbound  Cycles Outbound   Cycles in Hyperspace   Total Cycles
 Zargonia  –   0.7   5.8   6.5
 Argyropoulos  2.4   0.7   10.5   20.1
 Pristine  2.4   –    –    22.5

So, the journey is expected to take about 23 Cycles to Pristine, excluding stop-over time at Argyropoulos.

  1. Oliver Starr says:

Oliver will set up in his cabin.
He will firstly set up the computers to do their thing.
He will spend a shift sleeping as normal, in routine with his time to watch the ship.
If he gets at least half a shifts sleep he will spend his remaning allocated sleep time reading the journals. If he gets less than half and has nothing urgent to do he will attempt to sleep again.
He will eat a meal in the morning and put aside two breaks for second and third meals.
He will spend his required time on watch and have a journal and his engineering book with him while he does so.
If he feels social he may pop in to see Erin to talk nerd for a bit. He will try and include their new arrival in one of those chats and then maybe attempt to have a conversation with him one on one.
He will stop in on Fromm at some point to ask if his time on Zargonia was satisfactory and catch up.
I imagine a regular day will include 30-35% sleep, 50-60% work and 5-20% recreation, study and socializing.
