8-306: Merchant Freighter Spanial – Hangar
Karmen says, “seems your education has been neglected after all.”
(This could be a friendly dig about Lia showing off her geology and chemistry knowledge.)
She pulls one of the slug-throwers out of it’s holster.
“These are more effective in vacuum than the beam guns. I want to get some Gyrocs at some point, but haven’t been able to yet.”
She points out various features to Lia, and demonstrates as she speaks. Lia may note that both Prrri and Gregar are also watching intently.
“Rule 1: Always point the weapon in a safe direction. Don’t ever point it at anything you don’t intend to shoot.
“Rule 2: Always point the weapon in a safe direction.
“Rule 3: Keep your finger off the trigger unless you intend to shoot.
“The magazine slides in here like so. These carry 30 shots. Magazine slides in and out when you hit this button here. Once the magazine is in, pull back here to prime it”
The weapon clicks as Karmen works the slide atop the weapon.
“Now there’s a round in the chamber and the hammer is primed, and you see this little window shows a little red light. You see the laser sight on the front has come on too. Don’t worry about learning to use the sights now, just tag your target with the red dot and squeeze the trigger.
“The safety is here, slide this down with your thumb and a pull on the trigger will cause it to fire. More trigger pulls means more shots.
“This model has an electric hammer, so we use the de-cocking lever here to lower the hammer and the laser sight goes off. Push up on the de-cocking lever to prime the hammer again. The weapon can still fire with the hammer lowered but it takes a lot more trigger pressure, so always use the safety.
“Note the whole time I’ve been talking I obeyed rule one.”
She removes the magazine, and works the slide, causing the cartridge in the chamber to be ejected. She palms it and puts it in a pocket.
“Rule 4: Never hand someone a loaded weapon.
“Rule 5: Always assume a weapon handed to you is loaded.”
She holds the pistol by the barrel and presents it grip-first to Lia.
Lia was processing quite well until about half way through those instructions, when she started to look overwhelmed. She will stare at Karmen and then at the gun for a beat before gingerly taking the handle. She holds it awkwardly and it’s quite obvious she doesn’t know where to put it.
