8-299: Merchant Freighter Spanial – Control
In Control
Kort says, “no, I was deliberately not given those details in case the Legion stopped us on the way here.”
Extrapolating our Conversation
So, based on our conversation, Lia turns her mind to who or what might be responsible for the destruction of the ship?
It’s too far above the atmosphere for any of the electrical activity going on there to have caused this.
Could it be the Seperatists, she wonders? The Separatist worlds are closest to Octant 3 and the gateway to the Separatist worlds is through Newerth, but attacking a ship inside the Dominion Sphere would be an act of war.
What about aliens, she wonders? Well, the Naki are active in Octants 1 and 2, that’s almost on the opposite side of the Dominion from here in Octant 7.
- Octant 1 = Red
- Octant 2 = Orange
- Octant 3 = Yellow
- Octant 4 = Green
- Octant 5 = Cyan
- Octant 6 = Blue
- Octant 7 = Purple
- Octant 8 = White
Lia was last at Zarg’s World, which is near the middle of the image in Octant 7. Foofor is a short jump from there, somewhere.
Or the Yarg… which, given her interest in alien species, she knows are ammonia-based life forms. Could it be a coincidence that out that window is a rare, ammonia world…
Merchant ships are instructed that in the unlikely event they encounter a Yarg ship, to actively avoid all contact and report the encounter to the Legion Navy as soon as possible. Civilians are not permitted to make contact with the Yarg in any way.
There isn’t much information casually available to the public about the Yarg. Lia knows:
- They are ammonia-based life
- They are sometimes referred to as methane-breathers, although Lia’s knowledge of chemistry suggests it’s actually more complex than that (the actual skill is Biochemistry so she’s working at the edge of her knowledge there)
- Their gross physical anatomy is variously described as ‘jellyfish’ or ‘spider-like’ but there are no details
- They possess sufficient technology to be capable of interstellar travel
- They are considered potentially dangerous by the Dominion Legion Navy
- Their ships are sometimes described as egg-shaped
Lia will give a frustrated sigh in response to Kort’s comment.
“Fair enough.”
She will move closer to the scans that gave her the information about the planet and begin the mental process discussed above.
Once she starts thinking about the Yarg, her attention becomes more fixed and she will develop a certain agitation that borders on excitement.
“This is an ammonia-based world. Atmosphere roughly -100°…”
Flat statements, merely underlining her previous rundown of the planet.
“The Yarg…are ammonia-based lifeforms…”
Her voice is hushed, almost awed.
