8-095: Zarg’s World Downward Shuttle
Lia and Kwint eat, and make their way to the Shuttle Dock. They pass through the usual Legion security checkpoint (not dissimilar to a contemporary airline security point) through which they tag and pass through weapon detectors and chem sniffers.
Again, Esha is proven right; Legion detectors don’t seem to register well on Zoner! as long as basic precautions are taken (basically, keep the tabs in a sealed bag and wash it and your hands after).
Lia and Kwint are issued with complimentary Gecko Overshoes – these are like snow shoes that passengers tie on over their shoes at the boarding gate and allow passengers to stick to the floor as the shuttle is not equipped with Grav Plates. Kwint declines, his spacer’s boots have the feature built in. They board the Shuttle along with about a dozen others, strapping into their seats with a four point harness. When you put your harness on, a red light goes off over your seat, and Lia knows from having flown these things that you don’t move unless the seat board is clear.
When everyone is boarded and strapped in the shuttle boosts out from the moonlet on and in which the Highport is built. Unlike a large satellite, this moonlet orbits close in to Zarg’s World, so the trip is relatively quick. Within a bit over a Task the shuttle is in its orbital insertion track and shortly after that the first whisper starts across the hull as the shuttle enters atmosphere. After that it takes less than a task to descend through the atmosphere, and presently the wheels touch down on the runway and the shuttle bleeds off speed and taxis to the dock.
Warning notices aboard remind passengers that the atmosphere of Zarg’s World is unbreathable and mildly toxic and gravity outside the habitats is 0.5G. Indeed, unlike when she boarded the shuttle in orbit, Lia has weight now.
Presently, passengers are allowed to unbuckle and leave the shuttle.
Is there anything Lia would like to do, know or chat about on the way down.
Lia would like to know what Kwint thinks is in that bloody crate…
