7-185: Travelling to Snow Lake – Equatorial Train
A couple of Tasks pass and there is a stop, then another couple and a stop. Around the Blue Shift change the train proceeds along open country for some time, gradually losing some of the other tracks from along-side as it does. It travels along a coast for a while and Oliver has a majestic view of a blue-green ocean if he cares to look. Then a tone sounds advising passengers that the train is ‘approaching the Vacc Tunnel’ and ‘passengers should familiarise themselves with the emergency cards in their set pockets in the unlikely event of an emergency.’ The train slows down somewhat before dipping down and entering a tunnel, passing a series of large gates every 15 seconds or so as the whispering air sound dies away. Then there is a sense of acceleration and the red lights along the tunnel walls rush past at increasing speed until they are a more-or-less constant blurred red line.
During the BY Break, the train slows and there is a sense of uphill movement as the train passes through more gates before entering open terrain again, stopping shortly after at a place called Nissan Coast. Outside the windows the shadows are growing long and when the train pulls away from the station is is almost dark. Four tasks later at BG07 the train stops at a place simply called Interchange, and passengers are advised again that uncoupling will take place. Car 2 is almost empty now, with only them and another woman down the far end in a business suit.
After four more tasks, during which it would be when Oliver usually eats, the train pulls into Snow Lake, and it is time to alight.
I think I underestimated the trip… i guess he will read with his engineering book or take some mental notes on his invention since he has no Argyle on him.
“You better be functional when we get there, Uddin. Lets go.”
Oliver will lead the way and find another place to hail a taxi
