7-062: Illuminator – Vizierate Equipment Supply

Funds

One of the challenges for Lia is that her disadvantages are constructed such that her outgoings are considerable.  She needs to earn good money just to stay solvent.  Conversely, Oliver is wealthy and miserly so I would expect his savings to grow.

As per this, one Money is roughly equal to a contemporary dollar (and exactly equal to a GURPS Dollar), however Tech Level, economic structures and pressures are such that some items will be more or less expensive than you might expect.  For example, the Dominion makes extensive use of ceramics, metal and glass rather than plastics because hydrocarbons are comparatively more rare than those other materials, making plastics expensive.  For a society that lives in sealed habitats and has only a few planets with livable biospheres, organic materials are expensive.  Thus good clothes are expensive (whether you choose cotton or nylon they’re both rare; lots of fibres are hemp or bamboo-based because they’re easy to grow), and fresh food can be very expensive in some places, as it either has to be grown in large, artificially maintained habitats, or imported from places like Zargonia, Mundo Zargo or Russell’s World.

With Vizier Mallory

“Hmmm…charm…  I’ve you’ve impressed…Lillith…you must be a … hard … worker.”

She definitely looks like she’s editing her words from her internal monologue as she speaks.

“There’s always interesting things happening on Zargonia, if you know where to look.  I’ll be spending my time at MaPaCoA, but I’m planning to get around to some places outside of my Projects while I’m there.”

Computer nerd Oliver would know that MaPaCoA stands for Massive Parallel Computing Array – it’s the biggest computer in the Dominion.

“That sounds like Lilith, she enjoys rooting out traitors.  What did he do, serve her tepid tea once?”

  1. Oliver Starr says:

Makes sense that once you can travel through space that rocks become more abundant.

Oliver gives her a look of uncertainty, “I’m dilligent with what I do, if the work is interesting enough.”

He probably gets a bit of a nerd boner from that. “MaPaCoA? I’ve always wanted to see it… do you think contractors are allowed to fiddle with its workings?” This last line is clearly in jest.

That comment will get an audible laugh from Oliver, then perhaps a quick flashback of Chris’s bleeding chest and being on fire. “More like an automated defence turret. Lilith isn’t the head either, Frederick S.. (I forgot his last name.) is.”
