6-066: Merchant Freighter Spanial

Gregar’s Visit

The crew seem to be aware that Lia is standing watch.

Gregar brings Lia a meal without being prompted.

He seems excited that she is standing watches, but a little disappointed they can’t do the shuttle thing together.  He says if she wants to know about any of Spanial’s systems he is happy to help.  He will stay and chat with Lia for as long as she is willing. He will ask about Rosaline (although he calls her ‘your plant’.)

Ghost Rider in The Sky

Hard to say if Jennie is extremely good, was trying to set an example so was really focused on the turnover or was just lucky.  She has executed this maneuver very well.  Lia can keep trying to beat this (there is a sense Jennie may have set it up like the Karate Kid catch-the-fly-with-chopsticks thing…), she will need to succeed on her pilot roll by 10 to match Jennie’s maneuver and by 11 or a Critical Success to do better.  After one Cycle of studying the manual she no longer has the familiarity penalty.  Once she has gotten past the familiarity penalty, every time she succeeds (not beats Jennie, just succeeds on the maneuver) she can add +1 to the roll up to a max of +4 (as this is actually a routine thing; if Lia were doing this in the shuttle in which she learned she’d be at +4 already.)

She can decide ‘fuck it’ of course and not bother, and you don’t have to roll if you don’t want to (we can imagine it as a training montage that will take place now and into the future should Lia have future opportunities to play with Spanial…)

Campaign Dates for Lia

As discussed I’m going to keep Lia’s timeline flexible for the moment, so it can easily be matched with Oliver’s later if that’s where we all decide we want to go.

So, I’m going to call Lia’s first day of play Day 1 and refer to dates relative to that, if that’s OK?  When people are actually talking about dates, they will be referring to the actual in-universe date, which is to be determined later.  It is some time in kCy211…

Timeline-wise then:

  • Shuttle departed on GG06 on Day 2
  • Gregar brought Lia dinner at BY on Day 2
  • Turnover was at RR01 on Day 3 (presumably followed by Lia going to bed)
  • Lia has a chance to play Ghost Rider during her shift on Day 3 from GR01 onwards
  • The ship is scheduled to arrive at Mundo Zargo at BR01 on Day 4

Zoner!

So given the above, when is she going to take her hit? Can you confirm my recollection that Zoner! is expensive, and addictive but I don’t think you paid the point cost for illegal?

(Tip:  The Inner R-G-B ring is Shifts, the Middle R-G-B ring is Jobs, the Outer R-G-B (and Cyan and Yellow) is Tasks.)

Clients

Lia can use the Spanial’s radio to call, or message, ahead to Mundo Zargo. At turnover the light-speed lag was about 350 seconds for a round trip, which will make direct conversation impractical for the moment.  The lag will reduce as Spanial approaches Mundo Zargo.  If Lia would like to get onto things early, she can update her public net page.  She can also text and/or video and/or voice message.  Last time she was here, she entertained Aston Ziegler-Sim-Carrow-Narw; perhaps he is around? So, I think relevant skills for seeking out clients are Savoir Faire(High Society), Current Affairs(High Culture), Carousing (IQ-based), Merchant, Streetwise and Research.   I’m going to say she can pick one helper skill and roll on it, and if that succeeds she gets to add +2 to her real roll to find a client.  Which skills she chooses will flavour the nature of how, who and how many she may find.  If she wishes to seek out new clients specify skills and give me some rolls.

For existing clients I think a regular social skill is more appropriate:  Diplomacy, Acting, Fast Talk etc.  I’ll assume she can contact Aston if he is routinely available, whether he will engage her services is dependent on his personal circumstances (availability/mood/finances/relationship status etc), how happy he was with the last encounter and Lia’s persuasiveness.  If she wishes to try contacting him, give me an appropriate roll.

Give me a roll on a skill she used during their last meeting and we’ll see how that influences her personal reputation with him. Does the above work for you?  If you think other skills might be appropriate, feel free to suggest them.

  1. Lia Silver-Rose says:

Lia is pleased Gregar has come to visit her. She’s touched he thought to bring her a meal and is happy to chat for quite a while. She’s disappointed they can’t work on the shuttle systems as well. She’ll tell Gregar she’s happy to take a raincheck on that.

She has several questions about the Spanial’s systems. She’ll go through the manual with him, going over any sections that she was unclear on. She’s curious and legitimately interested but her knowledge has basically been limited to shuttles until now, so she will suck up any insight he can give her.

She will happily talk about Rosaline and though she notices that he doesn’t use her name, she thinks it’s sweet that he’s asking.

Lia tries Jennie’s maneuver 15 times. It takes her four tries before she succeeds the first time. Then she succeeds on her second try after that, second try after that and then each successive try is a win. On her tenth attempt, she matches Jennie’s maneuver perfectly. One might even say she critically succeeded…

Lia is due to take her next hit on the evening of the third day. This leaves her with only one dose left so that will be one of the first things she needs to achieve on landing.

I’d need to check my sheet in the character builder but I have a feeling that the addictions come up as automatically illegal. Happy to change that if it doesn’t affect points.

Lia will update her public net page with her current location and time availability as soon as she is able.

Regarding ‘seeking out clients’. From what I understand about this line of work, it’s the clients that do all the seeking. Lia will receive invitations for her services and she will vet and choose (or reject) based on her own criteria. She doesn’t go trolling bars in hopes of picking up dates; they come to her based on her reputation, word of mouth, advertising and whatever needs they imagine will be met.

Regular clients are no different. She never contacts them but might expect to be contacted if nearby. If not, not. She lives by their desires, not the reverse.
