6-065: Merchant Freighter Spanial

Lia’s Activities
She’ll head back to her quarters and do her own thing for a while. For recreation she likes to play with her chemistry set and her scents. She makes jewellery as a hobby as well as a job and she loves to cut and carve gems. She’s also an avid reader. If she can access vids, she’ll watch some. She’ll spend time with her weight set as well as time using the larger gym equipment in the Common Room. She will also feed, water and talk to Rosaline. She may even bring her along while she’s on watch. Some of those things she can do whilst on watch.
GM Response
Love it. Especially Rosaline. Fair to say she will be adequately occupied in her Watch and Off time.
Also, if she knows she has an appointment with a client coming up, she will spend some time preparing for that.
GM Response
I’m going to park the client stuff temporarily until I get access to your character resources again. She’ll have time to figue out the situation before she gets to the planet and make arrangements. NB: we may have to go back in time for some bits but I think that’s ok
Lia’s Activities
Beyond getting to know the crew (hint: I want to meet Prrri!)
GM Response
I want her to meet Prrri as well but as soon as she does she’s going to have questions and I haven’t had time to come up with answers and I don’t want to halt play while I do so
Lia’s Activities
, she will read and absorb as much of the manual as she can.
GM Response
one Cycle studying the manual and experimenting with the controls (in Test Mode) will allow her to remove the equipment familiarity penalty for Walrus-class freighters.
Lia’s Activities
She also wants to keep the arrangement with Gregar about him going over the shuttle systems with her.
GM Response
we might flesh that out a bit, but in a nutshell that’s difficult with the shuttle not being here and Gregar seems quite disappointed it’s on hold
Lia’s Activities
I’m cool to just say we did that if you don’t want to play it out.
GM Response
see above. Gregar will bring her a meal pack for dinner while she’s on watch and they can chat.
Lia’s Activities
She had a the night before we started playing. If it (do you have a name for it yet?)
GM Response
Zoner! (Almost always written with the !)
Lia’s Activities
lasts for three Cycles, that means she should be due for a hit tomorrow night.
GM Response
she has some hits remaining from memory?
Lia’s Activities
It’s quite possible that she’s been to Mundo Zargo before. If It’s the kind of place where she would find clients who can afford her, then let’s say she has been here before.
GM Response
It’s a class A Colony world. It’s probable. So we can say she has been here before. It will affect how I describe the port and planet. Only thing would be if you wanted to see it through a newcomer’s eyes. However, Lia is well travelled so it works.
Lia’s Activities
I’m okay with you just deciding if one of her regulars lives here; I kinda figured you would make those calls. Up to you if you want to let the dice decide.
GM Response
I will develop a suitably inscrutable GM-like mechanism.
Lia’s Activities
In terms of travel, I think she’s done quite a bit. She’s never travelled in the fashion she is currently doing but given that she’s wealthy and the nature of her work, I think it makes sense that she’s been to quite a few places.
GM Response
see above
Lia’s Activities
I wonder if there’s a way for her to have some sort of location function on whatever equivalent of a website she has for Winta. That when she enters a system, she can do the equivalent of a check in so clients in the area will know she’s around and they can make bookings.
GM Response
that should be possible, even in the net-primitive Dominion. It will cost a nominal amount, say 1 money per Cycle
Lia’s Activities
Either that or she’d have to have some form of calendar of locations.
GM Response
Harder to make that work when she’s subject to Karmen’s dictates
The main interesting thing about ship ops is that at the end of Blue shift when Jennie takes over she invites Lia to hang around if she wants to while she does the turnover.
This means she cuts the thruster – Spanial has been accelerating toward the planet up to this point – spins the ship through 180 degrees to point the drives toward the destination, then activates the thruster again to start slowing down.
When Lia arrives for her next watch there is a note (electronic) on the panel:
‘I recorded last Reddening’s turnover. Put the controls into ghost simulation mode and see if you can follow me through the maneuver. -J’
If Lia wants to do this, it basically puts Spanial into flight simulator mode. Lia can try and do the maneuver while competing against a virtual version of Jennie’s maneuver in real time. She can try as many times as she likes… the trick is to do the maneuver while balancing accuracy (ie as close to a perfect 180 degree rotation as possible with minimal course corrections after), quickness (the more quickly the maneuver is accomplished the more elegant the match to the nav plot – take too long and the ship will be going too fast when it reaches the destination) and smoothness (minimal lateral forces experienced by the people and cargo that can’t be corrected by the grav plates)
Response (via Email)
Not sure what kind of response I can make here beyond saying she’s happy to chat with Gregar when he brings her a meal pack. I assume she would have sent him a message telling him she was on watch at the start of the shift.
She’s also happy to play with the ghost controls and try to mimic Jennie’s maneuver but she won’t be able to get close considering her pilot skill is only 10, even without the negative for unfamiliarity with the controls.
She has two doses of Zoner left, so after tonight’s hit, she will be down to her last dose. She’ll need to source some on Mundo Zargo pretty quickly.
