6-031: Merchant Freighter Spanial – Shuttle Hio

He has her sit in the command pilot seat and sets her up with her own access to the Hio’s systems.  She can log in by presenting her Mer ID tag to the computer and authorising with a thumbprint.

He gives her a quick introduction to the specific quirks of the shuttle’s systems, as I’m guessing it is unlikely Lia would have flown this particular model of shuttle before.  After that, running a Level 2 diagnostic is a routine thing every pilot would know.  An engineer can do it by themselves, but it is quicker and easier if someone is at the controls helping out. (For a Level 1 diagnostic the pilot presses the button and waits for the computer to tell them what it finds.  Level 2 means an engineer working system by system.)

Kwint spends most of his time clambering about outside on the hull to do this.  The shuttle is compact, with no engine room, and most systems need to be accessed by opening external covers; which can be a pain if there is a fault while in space.

It will take a several Tasks to run through the diagnostic.

After Lia has been there a little while, Gregar arrives to look at the environmental module. Gregar is a slim, compact man with brown hair and pale grey eyes whose appearance is marred by a series of burn scars on the right side of his face and his neck.  His age is difficult to estimate accurately, perhaps 14?  But he could be older or younger by a couple of kCy. He comes forward to the cockpit and seems momentarily surprised to find Lia there.  He observes her and the panel in front of her briefly, then quietly – he usually speaks quietly, sometimes to the point of being difficult to hear – he says, “You’re running a Level 2 diagnostic with Kwint?” It is apparently a rhetorical question, as he does not wait for an answer but says, “Can you put the environmentals into diagnostic mode as well?”

  1. Lia Silver-Rose says:

She’ll nod in response to his initial question but I assume she’s seen enough of him to be unsurprised at the lack of acknowledgement.

If she can put the environmentals into diagnostic mode, she will do so. Otherwise she will ask for clarification on how to do that.

    Once it’s done…

“Do you know why the environmentals would be registering an issue if it’s not there? Or do you think the issue’s caused by something else? A glitch?”

    She’s genuinely interested.
