6-001: Merchant Freighter Spanial

Module Introduction

Hi-Yo, Silver! Away! is an introductory module for the character Lia Silver. We will establish who Lia is and how she interacts with the Dominion universe.  At some point, hopefully, the PCs will link up…

Merchant Freighter Spanial

The familiar jump exit warning tone sounds, followed by the disorienting, queasy moment as the ship drops back into normal space.

After a few  Moments the all-clear warning sounds and Jennie’s voice comes over the Spanial’s PA system, “Attention all aboard, we have arrived in the Mundo Zargo system on schedule and on route.  Our immediate area of space is clear and everyone is free to move about.  We are now proceeding to the main world and our ETA to orbit is three Cycles, one Shift.”

Shortly after that, a low rumble reverberates through the ship.  Lia has learned that this happens when the ship’s main thruster activates; the habitat deck on the Spanial is constructed in a ring around the aft part of the ship where the thruster is located and the rumble is a constant background to normal space operations.  There is a barest sensation of movement as the grav plates compensate for the drive thrust.

As a precaution civilian spacecraft make passengers buckle in when exiting jump space, although in all the trips she has taken there has never been a problem.  With the all-clear having sounded, Lia is free to unbuckle herself and resume whatever she was doing.  It is a little after GR01.

The Dominion mostly operates on Shifts, and most people work during one Shift and sleep for a Shift worth of time (but not necessarily exactly aligned to a Shift, although many do.)  Fyi, Although the Dominion operates round the clock, a convention has developed that Green shift is often the main working shift, ie: ‘Green shift’ is equivalent to ‘office hours’.  Thus many people have their recreation time in Blue Shift and sleep in Red Shift.  This may be important for Lia to know, as a majority (but definitely not all) of her clients will likely want to meet in Blue Shift and many will normally sleep in Red Shift.

Question:  When did Lia sleep last, and is this normal?
Question:  When did Lia last feed her addiction, and how much supply does she have?
When she bucked in, Lia had the option of doing so in her Cabin’s bunk, or in one of the passenger acceleration chairs in the Common Room.
Question:  Which did she choose?
When I know where she is I can give you the next instalment of scene description…
Do you have any questions?

  1. Lia Silver-Rose says:

I’m going to say she slept during Red shift, so would normally be awake at this time. Also assuming she would have known they were scheduled to arrive at this time, she would have woken a little early to be prepared.

I’m going to say she took a dose last night to enjoy her rec hours before arriving. Planets and Way Stations mean work so she wants to be fresh for that. Assuming they would have been in jump for a while, her stash will be running low. Let’s say she has two doses left.

I think she’s in the Common Room in anticipation of assisting with the unloading/loading of any cargo.

One question – what do the crew generally wear on ship?
