4-008: Aboard Snark 416 – Oliver’s Cabin

Oliver first determines that this is probably a Fast Hardened High-Capacity Desktop PC.  It is an expensive piece of machinery; Oliver estimates it is worth ʄ50,000 to ʄ60,000.

It takes him a while (more than a task), but as a first step he is able to bypass the fingerprint reader.

In the process of doing so he discovers that this machine has installed, in what would normally be one of its storage module bays, a mechanism that looks like it is a self-destruct device.

It looks like there is facility to add a manual trigger, like a trip wire, but one isn’t attached.  The device is connected to the computer’s I/O so is presumably able to be activated by the security program.  There also looks to be some sort of sensor on the device’s side.

So far his efforts to bypass the fingerprint reader haven’t set it off.
