3-160: In the Pipe Run of Argyle’s Lodge
Chris heads into the pipe at a shuffled, hunched-over walk.
The pipe continues down for about 20m then turns to the right about 45 degrees or so, continuing to slope downwards. After about 40m it levels out somewhat, but still with a slope down. Another 250m or so sees Oliver’s and Chris’ thighs and backs burning from being hunched over.
Just after that there is a series of roughly 20 degree right-hand bends where the pipe runs on for 5m before bending again.
After traversing three of these Chris stops suddenly, says quietly, “hey, Oliver, two things. First, I think it’s getting colder. Second, what do you think this box is?”
On the right-hand wall just before a bend and about half-way up, a metal box has been mounted. It is about 24cm x 12cm x 4cm and is jutting out of the wall with one short, thin end attached to the curving tunnel wall by some sort of lump of adhesive about the size of a fist.
