3-049: Aboard the Aerostat VI
Oliver sees two lines of dim flashes lance up toward the Aerostat, one from each gate post. Most go wide but there is a metallic crunch and a grinding noise as one connects with the front right thruster pod and it explodes in a shower of fragments.
The vehicle slews sideways and speed drops by 25%.
Chris says, “I think that’s Gyroc fire.”
Dicard mutters an expletive and says something about the insurance excess.
Roll for Alan to make a control roll (10 skill + 2 Hnd)=12 to recover from the loss of the engine.
Is there anything in particular you want Alan to try and do (in addition to recovering control)?
Is there anything you want you or anyone else to do?
Game mechanics (fyi)
- The range was 20yd (-6), vehicle size (+4), vehicle speed 30km/h=18MPH [factored in because of evasive action]* (-3), turret aimed for 1 second (+2), all out attack (+1) = -1 modifier on attack roll
- * speed is not always a factor in hitting a target, it’s a bit GM discretion.
- One turret hit with enough success for one shot of a three-round burst to hit, considering the RCL stat of the weapon
- Hit location was the thruster, which has 6 HT according to the rules on B555; damage from the attack exceeded that after adjusting for damage type against an unliving target [B380].
- The thruster is destroyed and the additional damage is lost.
- Destruction of the thruster drops speed by 1/<number of thrusters>.
- As the thrusters are also used to steer the vehicle, I rule a control roll is needed.
Is the above useful, or would you like me to keep it dramatic only?
“Get us down! Fast as you can, close to the door! Weapons ready!”
Alan rolled another 8.
It’s a cool read, but not a necessity.
