- Chief Engineer Erin Malan
Erin is an overweight woman with brown hair and blue eyes. She is 13-14 kCy.
Erin’s role is as the ship’s engineer. She seems quite competent. At one point she pointed out to Oliver that she, “[is] an actual engineer too, not just a mechanic or a tech.”
Erin is quiet, and so far hasn’t spoken much unless spoken to. In a brief conversation with Oliver she said that she was just happy to have this job and didn’t want anything to mess it up for her, noting that “Not many people get a second chance.”
Erin later revealed that her Mercantile Bureau Engineer’s Certification had been cancelled about a kiloCycle before being hired by the Vizierate, who issued her with new credentials for this mission. In summary she stated, “Officially, I had my licence cancelled for being a smuggler and an active threat to the security of the Dominion. I was facing a long term of indenture before Vizier F made the charges go away.”
Erin elaborates on the story of how she came to lose her engineer’s licence at 5-161.
Eris seems to have had little love for the Legion before this incident, but since then she is openly disparaging of them when in private with someone that she trusts. As such she has little respect or affection for her crewmates Halcyon and Fromm.
She seems to appreciate the second chance that Vizier Frederick has given her and seems not to mind the job, though she doesn’t appear to have a high personal opinion of Dicard. She has said that, “Chris is alright in limited doses.”
She has admitted being at a loss when she’s not working. Recreationally, she sometimes plays Chak for money.
She once commented, “Wouldn’t that be nice; equality, liberty, community.” She has noted that she has “…spent plenty of time with Enclavers.” Despite that her Enclaver language skills allegedly extend only to “Hello, goodbye and a bunch of swear words.”
She is hetrosexual and has stated she is attracted to “…brains, so I can have a decent conversation, and a sense of fairness.”
Oliver has observed that Erin seems to lack confidence in presenting her opinions. She will make a firm, well-thought-through declarative statement and then immediately start second-guessing herself.
