Secretariat Buildings

Overview

A cluster of  buildings set on a wide expanse of manicured lawn.  The central one a triangular white tower set well above the ground on a tripod base and illuminated with bright spotlights from the ground below.

Nearby is a large, low building near the tower, the Landing Area with large airlock doors to a vertical shaft that leads is below ground-level.

Interior Areas

Locations include, but ae not limited to:

Air Landing Area

The docking area is a large, square space, overhead, the double sets of transparent doors overhead showing a distorted slice of starry sky above.  A hissing thump of air pumps pervades the background and there is a strong breeze of cool, damp air from the vents.

Transfer Hall

Beyond an inner airlock into the landing area is the Transfer Hall, where the décor, and the air, is much more welcoming.  It is a long area, warmly lit with comfortable chairs, couches and pot plants dotted around.  The air is pleasantly warm and humidity controlled.  Numerous access airlocks to other landing areas and a travel pod station line the long hall.

Transit Corridor

At the end of the Transfer Hall, a pair of glass double-doors open onto a long, wide corridor stretching off in both directions.  There’s a walkway, a two-way travelator and a small roadway.  It’s moderately busy.

Stepping onto one of the travelator feeder belts will whisk one along the corridor to the main elevator banks up to the tower.

Lower Foyer

The end of the travelator deposits visitors into a huge, high-ceilinged, marble-walled triangular room with a three banks of elevators arranged in matching triangular format.  Transparent panels in the ceiling show a similar looking space above them that is apparently the surface-level access to the building.

The Vizant tags through a security station guarded by a pair of Legionnaires.

He heads toward the bank of elevators servicing the top third of the building.

Elevators

The Vizant goes to the elevator control pillar in front of the elevators.  He tags in, presses the destination from the tag-specific menu that is displayed, and is informed that his and Lia’s car will be number 305.

Shortly an illuminated 305 appears over a set of doors, and he tags into the car.

Secretariat Private Dining Room

Foyer

The doors open to an elegant foyer, which looks to be panelled in real, warm brown, timber.  With lush carpet and artworks on the walls.  A decorative gas flame is burning on one wall in an ornate glass box.

A Legionnaire in dress uniform is standing at a security post off to one side.  Ahead, an elegantly liveried Majordomo in Bureaucrat Blue stands by an ornate set of double doors into the dining room.

Dining Room

The dining room itself is a split-level design.  The main floor has some lounge chairs and a few low tables scattered about, but the dining tables are each raised up a few steps on platforms of different sizes surrounded with low railings and glass panels.  The décor is natural timber, glass, and muted neutral carpets.  In addition to the usual lighting there are a number of decorative gas flames in glass enclosures, and reflected flame light sparkles off the many glass surfaces.

Distorted shapes of heads and some other bodies are visible at other tables – the place is perhaps a quarter full.  It’s quite quiet in here though, the dining tables don’t spill much sound at all, and the background is filled with a light, unobtrusive, upbeat musical tune.

In the centre of the lower area is a huge, ornamental clock made of glass, taller than Lia.  But, it does not employ an electronic display, the time segments are glass containers, the current task slowly filling with green-coloured sand.

Farbello leads her to a table on a platform next to the huge window at one end of the room.  Through it, the clear night sky is full of stars above, and the lights of the capital city many storeys below.

The Majordomo will hand guests a menu; it looks to be a slim electronic tablet bound in some form of real leather.

There’s a wide variety of food available, with a lot of fresh food and expensive dishes.  Being the Dominion with its round-the-clock society, one can have anything from breakfast meal pack to a boozy lunch to a 5-course dinner banquet.
