Grasslands down is a basic facility for cargo and passenger shuttles. It comprises a landing strip, a parking apron and a basic terminal.
Ships parked at the port are not typically connected to hard data lines and a call to a ship may be met with something like – “Grasslands Down, Operations,” followed by a promise of, “hang on, I’ll see if I can get someone.”
There is an unlit road bisecting an expanse of mown dark green grass between the parking area and a small cluster of buildings – known as the Op Center.
Passenger transfer is facilitated by a ten-seater rugged vehicle, with big wide tyres. The boarding tube assembly on the back looks to be a non-factory modification.
In the Op Centre is an unsealed transfer garage for people to move from the boarding truck to whatever vehicle will pick them up. Respirator masks will be provided if needed.
The garage smells of ozone, machinery and the distant scent of organic, growing things wafting in from outside. The gravity here is lighter than standard at ~0.6G and the garage is not fitted with Grav Plates to compensate.
