I-155: Spanial, Common Room (Hyperspace to Captree)
His mildly self-deprecating comment seems appreciated; there also seems to be some subtle amusement at his discomfort.
Oliver’s guess would be that, because a person’s birth date is encoded in their Mer ID, that information is readily available to people with appropriate access to the ship’s security systems from when he was given access. ie: Oliver’s Mer ID is F-203471-TZ-MLE-77-001-A and he was born on 203.471.
From Oliver’s own access to the computer systems, he knows that Jennie, Karmen and Gregar have sufficient access to be able to easily see his Mer ID. Further, anyone with access to configure the ship’s comm systems (himself, Gregar, Ipan, Karmen) can know the crew’s Mer IDs – and thus their birth dates – from the ship’s local message mailbox settings, though one would have to dig a bit. Given his excellent memory and his own access to Spanial’s systems, if he thinks about it, he knows all the crew’s bikedays himself.
“Anyway, happy number eight,” Jennie says.
Lia grins and holds up her plate for cake.
Oliver will say another awkward thank you and engage in foodage. He will also file to the Overlord that general merriment gets underway and people stop looking at him.
