At Lia’s prompting, Ipan unwraps his parcel.  Within is a set of neat and stylish clothes – pants, shirts, a jacket.

Ipan gives his mother what seems to be a small, genuine smile, “Thanks Ma.”    

To Lia’s trained sartorial eye, Lia suspects Karmen has chosen them to compliment the jacket she wears when she wants to look ‘captain-like’ – without actually being a uniform. 

Karmen refrains from correcting him.
