I have noticed a pattern with Raina that I suspect Lia is about to discover. I’m pretty sure she should be a Vizier. 😉
Have a star for figuring out one of Raina’s secrets:
Parlour
Raina begins with a caveat, “I will be omitting and changing some parts of this story, as there are some parts of it that are not mine to tell.
“That said, I was on Aaran’s Pride…”, she begins, as Lia requested, a story narrated in great detail.
Raina speaks of a Bluevening where she was celebrated for her abilities in law and as an ‘entrepreneur’ by “someone we’ll call Bob”, her last night on Aaran’s Pride before returning here to Captree. She notes that the function was officially not specifically for her, but that it certainly felt like it was partly so-motivated, and that being appreciated for her genuine accomplishments left her with a fond feeling. It took place at the function rooms of the Paradise Towers at Big Roof, and later at an after party. Raina describes what people were wearing, the decor, the food, the live music, the dancing, a meeting with ‘Bob’ where she was congratulated and given a memento of the evening – a bejewelled brooch, the limousine ride to the after party, meeting people and some of the conversations and people that she met, falling into a luxurious bed at the end of the night feeling exalted.
She speaks for a long time – making the tale entertaining by interspersing it with dry, understatedly amused observations on what she is narrating, occasionally adding a comment on how it made her feel, and chopping through the evening’s timeline and interrupting herself with a diversion here and there that eventually winds back to evening’s chronology; it may occur to Lia that Raina could probably be a pretty good stand-up comedian.
While she is speaking, Raina alternates between checking in on Lia’s attentiveness as a listener, and a remote and internally-focussed look as she seems to be accessing and processing her memories. Per the text and section above, it may put Lia in mind of when she had Minor Vizier Jonathan Richards-Fiston-Harlow-Mcallum as a client.
If you wish, you may roll either IQ or Will for Lia.
Questions? Reactions?
Lia is ready to listen to a good story and she gets invested in the richness of the details Raina relays.
She reacts most strongly to Raina’s feelings about the night – it’s almost as if she is sharing those feelings with her as she relives them. Raina will see her relish the aesthetics as they’re described and the more lush the description, the more she lights up. The mention of the brooch makes her eyes sparkle and her breath catch. Oddly, the description of the bed at the end of the night makes her close her eyes and make a little noise in the back of her throat that might be a moan.
It’s hard to tell but if Raina hits the right note of humour in the story, she may make Lia laugh for the first time. It’s a surprisingly unguarded sound.
9 vs 13 for IQ/Will. Not sure of the context so can’t decide which is most appropriate.
