H-326: Little Isle Manor House, Parlour

“So we’re playing tip for tap?”

An expression that might be mordant or merriment or a merger of both flits across Raina’s face.

“Alright.

“What I said was, ‘…being hostess places certain demands and…that is partly why I’m holding this function.’

“I was referring specifically to the demands, not the role of hostess.  I rarely hold large functions, but when I do I go to some length to make people feel welcome and special.  People seem to like coming here and that makes the functions exclusive and invitations something special, even sought after.  It puts people in a cheerful, grateful mood and so it’s an opportune time to talk business, make connections, call in favours.  That’s why I’m holding this party.

“I tell you this because you seem to be a student of people and their behaviour and I believe you will appreciate the rationale and candour.”

    She nods.

“That makes sense. Smart practice really, softening people up, making them more amenable to listen to what you need.”

She takes a moment to assess Raina quietly.

When she speaks, her voice is sincere with an undercurrent of concern.

“No wonder you’re tired. This night has been an endless stream of business deals for you, hasn’t it? You know we don’t have to do this now. I’ll still be here tomorro-cycle, if you want to continue our chat.”
