  1. Lia Silver-Rose says:

Her smile grows and begins to sparkle.

She takes a long inhalation and lets it out slowly.

“The first time I fell in love was with a small piece of graphite. When I was young, I was given a set of writing implements with graphite at their core. They were supposed to be for drawing and sketching but I stripped one of them back to see what it was. I tried to melt it.”

She leans forward slightly, eyes glittering.

“Did you know that graphite holds it’s form and strength under incredibly high temperatures? It reacts like a metal under stress. And it’s a fantastic conductor. I played with that little piece of graphite for cycles and cycles, discovering it’s properties until parts of it were slag.”

She takes a slow sip from her glass.

“Then I discovered that some stones could be shaped and carved. Cut and polished until they shine like stars…”

Her eyes have started to glaze with something a little like lust or longing.

There’s a beat as she gets lost in that feeling for a moment before she seems to do a mental shake and returns her gaze to Raina. Her smile is a little sheepish but the feeling she was just enjoying lingers in her face.

“It’s become something of a… passion of mine…”
