“I would hazard, from what I know of him, that he appreciates it on two levels.  He is a fastidious and contained man, and I think he might appreciate a small, intricate gift like that on its own merit.

“But I also think he enjoys gifts for the status they bring him and the status they acknowledge he has.  Aston mentioned in passing that he had gifted Markov-Wrikster something valuable, but I did not know what it was.

“It’s possible if you showed genuine appreciation, that may have heightened its value in his eyes.”
