    “You know how you can phrase things to give yourself an out? To let whoever you’re talking to know that you’re sorry you can’t do what they want, you’re busy, you’re won’t be around for long…blah blah, goatshit goatshit…veiled apologies.”

    A beat.

    “I didn’t give him any of those. I wouldn’t call that diplomatic.”
