Inhabitant Gumm

Plot

Told through a series of flashbacks and unreliable narrators, Inhabitant Gumm tells the story of a historian, Thom Alland, and his attempt to document the life of Randolph Gumm.  At the opening of the film, young Gumm is an inhabitant of an asteroid belt mining base who is identified as a candidate for the Vizierate at a young age.  His parents send him away to be raised in that life.  He rebels against the decision, preferring his simple life on the belt.  However, he leaves for the training and the rest of the story documents his successes and setbacks as he gradually rises through the ranks of the Vizierate to become Grand Vizier before being executed at the behest of the Overlord.  During his life he is shown as being transformed from idealist to purely pursuing power, and then increasingly dis-satisfied with his life.  At his death he is shown as being almost wholly disconnected from the events of his execution and dreaming about his simple childhood on the belt.

Argyle’s Review

The film makes impressive use of sound projection technology and creative filming.  The film is generally believed to be based on the real life of Harson Kaht, Grand Vizier at the time of Overlord Kate’s assumption.
