D-086: A public amenities room
Zayaire says, “Of course, Eliana.”
He gives a subtle bow and nod toward a door at the end of the room.
This place has amenities segregated by sex; how quaint – something seen only in very old structures with ancient plumbing.
Accordingly, this facility feels old, with walls of crumbling concrete festooned with kiloCycles of graffiti, a few holes in the walls through which the rebar reinforcing the concrete is visible, dim lights, some only partially functioning give an appearance both desolate and wan. The visible pipes are coated with rust or verdigris and the fittings are mechanical, needing things to be physically turned rather than buttons pressed to permit the flow of fluids. The mirror is made of polished metal, not glass. The room outside is full, but in here there is no-one, Lia’s/Winta’s/Eliana’s footsteps echo off the grimy concrete floor and off the hard surfaces; water drips.
Raina follows her in.
Something like fear grips her at the mention of her name, especially from him.
Lia turns to Raina and shuts the door firmly behind her.
