He sounds surprised, and has, I suspect, missed her point.

At her mention of potential threat, he smoothly picks up his environmental scanning.

“I don’ tink anyone has me under constant surveillance, but dere might be intermittent stuff.  I assume dey’ve figured out who I am, but eider dey haven’t or dere policy is to let me run.”

He pats the lump in his pocked.

“We’re covered against all but da most high-tech bugging.  Dey might have a camera on us an’ be readin’ lips but I pick locations carefully so dat’s not easy.”
