E-043-Oliver: Merchant Freighter Spanial (Docked at Zarg’s World Highport), Control
Diplomacy? Acting? Doesn’t have to be either.
He shrugs, clips the chair back to the wall leads Oliver to Control.
Oliver was in here before with Karmen, but I didn’t describe it.
The Control Room of the Spanial is a narrow, functional space with three acceleration couches and work stations facing away from the door. The decor is a functional palette of grey. There are actual viewports in front of the work stations, but they tend to be partially blocked by video screens. Currently a mix of stars and the Highport docking rig is visible through them. Under thrust, they don’t face forwards, but perpendicular to the direction of travel. At the rear of Control is a meeting table and several folding acceleration-rated chairs, similar to the one in his room.
Ipan gestures to the right-hand seat, “that’s usually Comm/Scan. You need to authenticate with a retinal pattern the first time you need command access, or after you have been off-ship or after 10 Cycles of inactivity. Thumbprint and ID tag are good enough after that.”
He sits in the middle seat, authenticates himself to the console.
Oliver may note that Alan didn’t have Maldemar 732 set like this – the controls were unlocked most of the time, with tag access required for Control and a thumbprint unlock only when returning to the ship if no-one had been aboard.
Diplomacy.
“Retinal first time, tag and thumb after.”
He stands over Ipan to look at the screen.
