She tilts he head to the side, “Well for starters, we’re not that big on formality around here.”
She pats her console affectionately, “much as it thrills my ego to be called Captain, I also respond just to Karmen, though we do maintain a level of formality during flight operations for safety purposes.”
Oliver will note over the next little while that despite her words, people do often call Karmen ‘Captain’, though it seems she’s the only person on the ship whose title is used.
“As to you reporting to Ipan…”
She seems to be grappling with the idea inside her head.
“…I like it when people pitch in. Someone asks for help, someone else helps. People who don’t pitch in get moved on.”
She appraises Oliver, looking him up and down,”can’t exactly move you on, but your stay with us can be pleasant or it can be not so much. I’d rather it’s the former.”
“Me or Jennie, she’s the XO, tell you to do something, you do it. Gregar runs the mechanicals, he says how he wants some doohickey on Spanial to work a certain way, we do it his way.
“Ipan…
“I’ll have Ipan take you through the Comms and Sensor systems.
“As for watches, when we’re back under way, we’re spoiled for choice right now – I’ve suddenly got a bigger crew than I know what to do with.”
She gestures to her console, “For sure, seeing as you’re here, I might as well register you with the ship.”
She indicates a tag reader, thumbprint and iris scanners.
Oliver’s stance may relax a little as she speaks. “Seems things are a little more… communal here than I am used to, Captain. I’ll do my best to adapt to your methods, feel free to call on me anytime.”
He produces his tag and allows himself to be signed in. “I do have one request though, Captain.”
