A-443: Mundo Zargo, Grasslands Agricultural Estate Facility Food Wing
There’s a good variety.
The Dominion doesn’t have the cultural context to talk about food the way we do in a contemporary way, ie you don’t get Italian or Malaysian food in the Dominion.
The Dominion’s reduced biodiversity also makes food a lot more homogeneous than we experience.
Broadly, food can be classified as:
- Regional – despite what I said above, there are some regional influences
- Fresh/processed/ farmed – fresh food is considered a luxury in many places… think the strawberry scene in Firefly between Book and Kaylee. Many of the population live only on processed meal packs. Then there are the in-between ‘farmed foods’ and when I say farmed I want you to think less of free range chickens wandering outside a red barn near rows of grain than a sterile factory where things are grown in vats or on culture trays. Farmed foods are often served just like fresh and usuallt need to be prepared or cooked.
- The usual classifications by type of food. One point, in reality, many people in the Dominion are vegetarians, because meat is a luxury item. The most common form of meat is Goat.
Lis is currently on a planet with a biosphere at a facility that is ostensibly a farm or at least related to one – the choice of food is actually pretty good.
She will search for something fresh, knowing that she’ll soon be eating onboard ship again soon.
