A-301: Mundo Zargo Downport, The General Landmark Inn

There’s a sense that Kort is suddenly on his best behaviour.

Kort glances at Lia quickly, never having herd that name.

The man blinks yellow-grey eyes at Lia without saying anything.

When people are seated he says, “So.  Your code says something has gone wrong and assistance is needed.

“What has gone wrong and what assistance is needed?”

Kort says, “Karmen?”

She picks up the conversation, “For sure,” she addresses the man, “we took Samuel and your container out to the destination.  When we got there the ship on site had been destroyed.  We boarded the wreck and salvaged some items, and now we have a bunch of stuff no-one wants our friends in black to find out about.  We’d like you get the container back to you and get paid.”

“I see.  Where are these items?”

“Making their way slowly here, we came ahead in the shuttle.”

“I see.”

He leans forward and carefully takes a sip from a glass of wine that has been standing in front of him, apparently previously untouched.

“I believe we can smooth the way through customs for your ship.  Can you give me nav and ETA details?”

In response, Karmen reels off some figures.

He nods, doesn’t write anything down.

“I think we would be pleased to accommodate you at the estate.  Finish your drinks, go shopping the return to your ship.  You will shortly receive further instructions regarding your contract with the Trade Bureau.  Please carry them out.

“Samuel, please stay with the Captain and her crew for the moment.”

He doesn’t invite questions, but if any are going to be asked it seems now is the time.

What impression does Lia get of this man using her Empathy?

She will wait and see how Karmen handles things; this is the first time she’s seen her in this capacity.
