A-190: Spanial, Common Area


He’s quiet for a while, seemingly looking for words.

“It’s not been all smooth, getting to know Ma again, and working for her.”

He stops again, finishes his can, “But I like it here.  I can succeed or fail on my own.”

Ipan turns away from Karmen, for a moment, but Lia’s opposite her and it’s easy to notice the flicker of emotion that she quickly stifles.

“For sure,” she says, “you’re a grown-ass man.  I figured it was time to treat you like one and not like you’re four.”

    Lia’s measured look is again, weighty and she will give Ipan a little nod, as if approving of him.

    “Failure is important.”

    There is that tiny hint of sadness again.

    “In order to be truly free and independent, we must fail and learn to pick ourselves up and live with our failures “

    “Wear them like scars. They’re proof you’re surviving on your own terms. But never let them rule you. Every failure is a lesson, an opportunity, a choice. Do you give up? Run home crying? Or do you figure out what went wrong and learn how to to improve, how to adapt…”
