“Sometimes it defines being a good parent. Particularly when your kids are young, and you can’t reason with them sometime you have to set hard boundaries so they learn things they need to know. That can make you the bad guy, the grumpy one, the one who’s always coming down hard. But it’s better than having a spoiled shit of a kid. But you do it because you care more for them in the long term than whether they like you.”
She hands Ipan a can.
“Sometimes being Captain is the same.”
She takes a long swig.
Lia smiles.
“I imagine it’s not a fun job.”
She carries her drink back to her seat.
