7-020: Illuminator
At the Meeting
Chris asks, “When do we get paid again?”
Dicard says, “I will disburse funds at our meeting prior to arriving at Witnish.”
After that there are no more questions and the meeting breaks up.
Erin gives Oliver a playful tap on the arm, “Hey, maybe I do get to play with a high tech engine after all!”
An Illuminating Journey
Dropping Eaves
Over the next several Cycles Oliver obtains the following information:
- From listening in to various conversations it seems like the ship has about a third of its project staff permanently assigned and the rest use the facilities for periods of time.
- There is at least one other Vizier on board.
- Oliver sees a Vizier purple-wearing woman with long, wavy blonde hair at the hairdresser having a lot of it cut off.
- A couple of what seem to be Vizant project techs are quizzing a couple of the crew about why there’s a Legion Officer aboard, and is it true he’s working in Control?
- Yes, it’s true
- The crew members don’t know why he’s here
- They’ve been told to let him observe, have him run tasks in parallel and not show him anything sensitive
Oliver’s Messages
If Oliver has made no effort to contact them (and I’m assuming he won’t), after the Illuminator emerges from hyperspace at Witnish (just before dinner on 211.360), Oliver will find the following messages in his inbox.
From Chris
No backsies.
From Erin
Hey Oliver,
I’ve hardly seen you – guess we’ve both been busy. Would you like to catch up?
Maybe we could spend some time on Witnish liberty hanging out?
-Erin
What Next?
Oliver’s Workplan
You previously instructed that Oliver is going to spend time reading the exercise books (which I took to be 2/3 shifts) and 1/3 shifts working on a program to assist his analysis of the Argyle data. Are you saying you wish to change that ratio? Also, to reiterate, he’s not decrypting at the moment, he’s analysing what he has already decrypted.
Other Actions?
Is there anything you’d like Oliver to do in response to any of the above?
Is there anything else you’d like him to do?
(You know he’s going to get a Chris visit before arrival at Witnish if he doesn’t respond to that message…)
Oliver will give a genuine smile “It may be, good luck.”
Oliver can probably easily deduce that officer is Alan.
Does the mess get excessively busy at any point where people might need to share tables spontaneously?
Chris: Oliver will response “No backsies.” But not imply a time or a place. He may end up sharing a single drink with a meal if Chris is there at the same time as him just to get it out of the way. He rolled a 16 on his loner score so he’s sticking with his “I’ll go when I feel like it.”
Erin: “I’ll have to do an estimate on how much work I have and how fast I’m getting it done against how much time I have. I’ll let you know.” He rolled a 6 on this one but he really wants to get his work done, mostly out of personal interest.
How far through the books is he? He’ll probably want to get that done until he starts something new, if there is a way to get a computer to do the digital stuff for him he’ll want to sort that out as his first priority task before he starts anything else so he can be working as efficiently as possible.
