I-251-Oliver: Spanial, Control (N-Space at Nonoop)

Hyperspace Exit

The control crew are all alert and strapped in for the hyperspace exit.  Jennie puts a big countdown clock on her screen so Oliver can see.  It counts down the seconds to projected jump exit.

With 90 seconds to go Karmen sounds the Emergency Maneuver warning, “All hands, secure for possible emergency maneuvers on jump exit,” her voice rings throughout the ship.

Earlier over dinner, Karmen warned she would do this and carries through with the formality in the moment.

A Moment later, and Oliver feels the familiar-but-always-unpleasant stomach-churning lurch as the ship exits into normal space.

“Jump exit complete,” Jennie reports, voice steady despite what must be her own churning gut and senses.

“Commencing full environmental scan,” Ipan says, bravely if not quite as steadily.

Over the intercom, Gregar, “FTL drive spool-down complete, thrusters now available to Helm, commencing FTL drive retuning.”

Jennie, responding to Gregar, “Helm acknowledges.”

She continues, “commencing location check, preliminary findings… I’d say we’re at the star’s safe jump limit, within intended jump parameters.”

She turns to Oliver, “Nonoop is an F6-class subgiant, safe-jump limit is between the fourth and fifth orbits.  Nothing out here but empty space.”

Karmen paraphrases, “So, roughly where we intended to be.”

Ipan interrupts, “I’ve got a radio-band signal, identifies as ‘Nonoop Navigation Buoy One’, time-stamped in both the Separatist’s clock and ours…

“Signal’s about 20 seconds old, if the time stamp is accurate.”

Jennie says, calculating distance and performance from the speed of light, “that’s about two-and-one-half Shifts for us, one-and-one-half in the shuttle.”

Karmen says to Jennie, “confirm our position, then plot a course for the nav buoy.”

She turns to Oliver, “that’s where I expect we’ll find your ride into Separatist space.”

Oliver can interject at any point, or simply respond to Karmen’s implied ‘what do you want to do now’?

  1. Oliver Starr says:

Oliver assists if necessary at any point but does not interject.

    He nods to Karmen.
“Thank you for your assistance. Hopefully the crew of the next ship are at least half as good as this one.”
